IVA & Your Debt
An IVA can include most of your debt, and these creditors can be included in your IVA proposal. The following gives you a list of the main debt that your IVA can and cannot include.

Debt An IVA Can Include:
- Credit cards
- Overdraft
- Store cards
- Personal/Unsecured loan
- Catalogue debt
- CCJ - County Court Judgement
- Rent (as long as you are no longer living at the property)
Debt An IVA Cannot Include:
These are often known as priority debt and includes:
- Secured loans
- Mortgages
- Student Loans
- Hire Purchase
- Debt incurred through fraud
This list is not extensive and there can sometimes be exceptions to the rule. The only way you can be assured which of your debt you can put forward in your IVA proposal is by contacting our One Advice IVA advisors, or fill in the Quick Enquiry Form and we can call you back.
Entering into an IVA may adversely affect your credit rating for up to six years from the date of approval.
Your property will be protected within an
IVA but you may be required to release all or part of any equity during the period of the arrangement.
Failure to complete the term of an IVA can result in bankruptcy.
(In Scotland, a PTD is the equivalent to an IVA.)
