CCJ Removal

In come cases, it can be possible to get a CCJ removed. But please be aware of some credit repair companies who promise that they can get it removed; lying to the court over CCJ removal is a criminal offence.

There are some options which can remove or correct the CCJ information which is held on the register, such as:

  • Pay the CCJ within one month – If you do so then the CCJ will be completely removed from the register.
  • Certificate of Satisfaction – Once you have repaid the CCJ, you can get a Certificate of Satisfaction issued by the Court. This means anyone who checks will be able to tell that the CCJ has been paid.
  • Set aside the CCJ – You can apply to the court to ask for the judgment to be set aside, but this can only be done in a few limited cases, such as if there has been a mistake in being issued with a CCJ.
  • Wait for 6 years – At the end of the six year period, from date of judgment, the CCJ will be removed from the register.

If there is no mistake regarding the issuing of your CCJ then it cannot be removed, even by companies who claim that they can legally remove CCJs from credit files. Not only will you have to pay a fee for this service, but many encourage people to commit perjury by lying to the Court about their CCJ.

About this matter, the Office of Fair Trading have commented: "The information given by these companies may be wrong, misleading or guaranteed to get you into worse trouble and ensure that you are even more out of pocket."
