Planning a Debt-Free Wedding

Posted in Debt by OneAdvice on the July 7th, 2009

So, you’ve decided to get married. Congratulations! But after all the initial excitement has died down, are you beginning to think about the financial strain that could come along with making your Big Day special, especially in the current financial climate? However, who said that just because you want to plan a financially cheaper wedding that your day can not be just as beautiful? At Accomplished Dreams, we believe that the budget shouldn’t determine the outcome of the day.

Stick to your Budget

It’s important that you set a budget and stick to it! After all, if you set your wedding budget with other financial factors in mind, then you know that to go over that budget could prove unwise – especially if the word ‘debts’ come to mind. There will always be ‘one more’ thing you saw online that matches your theme, or ‘one more’ accessory that goes with your outfits, but you must be disciplined, stick to your budget and make ‘one more’, ‘NO MORE’.

Take the DIY Approach

Have you considered taking on the Do-It-Yourself approach for some aspects of your wedding? Some things such as the wedding bouquets can be mastered (or at least beautifully achieved) through a bit of practice. It seems daunting to try tackling something new yourself, and the thought of it all going horribly wrong often comes to mind. However, if you really want to save money, then it is well worth trying a few things out yourself.

Find the Best Priced Supplier

Remember, ‘expensive’ does not mean ‘best’. It is often true that you get what you pay for; but think twice before being drawn to the most expensive wedding supplier. There are plenty of photographers, hair and beauty professionals, caterers, etc, who are at the top of their game, but don’t charge an arm and leg. For extra assurance, ask them to see samples of their work, visit their website if they have one, or view any testimonials that they have.

One may say that the wise couples are those that don’t start off their married life with an additional financial burden. So well done for choosing to tighten the belt; after all, when returning from your honeymoon, at least you will be greeted with congratulation letters, not red letters.
