Credit Crunch Changes Shopping Culture
The credit crunch has changed the way that many of us shop. More of us are leaning towards “shabby chic” with 31% of us shopping at car boot sales in order to pick up a bargain. In addition, more than two-fifths of those surveyed claim they now visit charity shops.
This thrifty spending is helping the average UK salary go 7% further as a third of Brit now visits at least five shops before buying an item, saving an average yearly sum of £1,746 each.
Callum Gibson, Head of Credit Cards at Abbey who conducted this survey, commented: “At a time when people’s finances are becoming ever more stretched, it’s not surprising that Britons are becoming more astute about how they shop and are prepared to shop around and economise to make their money go further.”
