Charity Shops beating the Credit Crunch

Posted in Credit Crunch by OneAdvice on the October 7th, 2008

Although shoppers are turning away from the high-street in favour of cheaper alternatives online, it seems as through charity shops are benefitting from the economic changes.

According to the 2008 Charity Shops Survey, the profits of the top charity shops rose 7.4% to a total of £106.7m over the past year, the biggest earner being Oxfam. The items which are selling the best are DVDs, books and bed linen.

David Moir from the Association of Charity Shops said: “Evidence from previous slowdowns is that charity shops are well placed to weather economic storms as cash-strapped consumers turn to them for value for money.”
